LIVE interview with Bob Galen: How to Coach Agile teams, lessons learned from coaching Scrum Masters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBGlIi8QJQs. LIVE interview with Bob Galen: How to Coach Agile teams, lessons learned from coaching Scrum Masters. Bob Galen joins us to talk Agile Coaching, and how Scrum Masters can develop their coaching skills. Change your lens of the focus of what system you're coaching, and reveal the system to itself. This will help you to understand the impact of a particular behavior on the entire system, and help you to coach around it. Before every coaching conversation, I clean my brain up a little bit, drop my bags with my biases or my judgments, and then open my eyes. Then I try to be present in the moment and not judge everything. One metaphor for coaching is dancing with your client. We're sensing and responding Look at the world through the client's eyes before you start changing trying to change their Vision. Leading into holding a retro, and maybe a retro on resistance. Lean into the Retro and lay some topics on the table and then see what surfaces. If nothing surfaces, find other teams to work with. Establish the client's agenda, and establishing the outcomes or the objectives that they have. This discussion should occur before you start coaching, and it can occur with your stakeholders or your sponsors and or with the team another. As a coach or scrum Master, you are a role model whether you open your mouth. Think about how you show up and whether you are living the scrum values. Coaching Growth wheel added some stances, a combined teaching and mentoring into guided learning, and Dreyfus levels for skill in each competency. It provides advice on how to grow yourself as a coach. Self-mastery. To be a coach, you have to work on the inside out, not just aspiring to an org chart change The level of coachability that you want is dependent on whether you are coachable and whether you are mentoring others. The comparative agility survey is free and you can put together a continuous learning roadmap based on your results. Mark Assess where you are on Dreyfus's framework, and then you can grow yourself. You can also find a group to practice with, and learn from others. Find a partner or a group where you can be the coachee and the coach.
